Papers please?

THIS just in from the "no shit, Sherlock" department.

Mass fingerprinting, biometric passports, identity cards and international identity databases will not protect Britain and other European countries from terrorists or criminals.

Here are three easy ways to reduce terrorism.

1) If you want crazy people to stop trying to blow you up, stop bombing their countries.
2) If you want crazy people to not be financially able to blow up your planes, buy less of their oil, ride a bike, take a bus.
3) If you want crazy people to stop trying to blow you up, stop providing weapons and training to them

ID cards and passports will do nothing but make the companies that make ID cards and passports richer.

WHAT are the policies followed by customs and border agents when the decide to search the contents of cellular telephones and laptops? A lawsuit being prepared by the Electronic Freedom Foundatation and the Asian Law Caucus intends to settle this question once and for all.

Which brings us to the second question - why are they even allowed to do this in the first place? I can understand searching for weapons, bombs, that sort of thing, but going through your laptop, MP3 player, and cellular telephone are asinine. To be honest, I didn't even they were doing this, but it turns out that there is already a federal case being brought against the government for the practice.

Which then raises the next logical question - how much longer before the state establishes thoughtcrime?

Fear of flying

THIS weekend I was planning to go out of town. I decided not to go, because the logistics required by the trip would have required me driving there and flying back. I cancelled the trip was because I didn't want to deal with the hassle at the airport that I knew I would get from the TSA if I tried to fly with a one-way ticket.

Or in other words, the terrorists have already won.

After all the bullshit...

SO unless you've been living under a cave, you've probably heard about the arrests and the super scary terrorist plot to sneak explosives on board airplanes disguised as toiletries. This plot is the reason that I have to throw away all my food and water, the reason I can't carry my laptop, the reason I have to check baggage every time I fly instead of using a carry-on, and the reason that all my flights take that much longer because I have to wait for my bag at baggage claim every time I fly because apparently deodorant poses an imminent danger to the free world.

And now it turns out that after all the bullshit that we all went through, the guy's case got dismissed because there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute him with, all he had was a couple of bottles of peroxide.

Un. Be. Lieveable.

Somewhere in Afghanistan, Osama is laughing his ass off.
