Encrypt? NO WAI!
THERE is a scene in the movie The Fifth Element in which the cops come to Bruce Willis' house. Before they enter, they tell him to put his hands on two circles that are painted on the wall, and with the push of a button, the door becomes transparent and they can see right inside.
Pretty fucked up right? The idea that the cops can arbitrarily invade your privacy whenever they feel like it? That day will never come, right?
Well, that day just got a little closer. I just got done reading that in the United Kingdom, a law is going into effect (today) which will make it a crime to refuse to decrypt computer data at the request of the police. The penalty for protecting your privacy is two to five years in prison.
